This tried and true solution is capable of replacing most network, application, and VoIP monitoring enterprise solutions with a single interface and, when acquired via a Managed Service, as a monthly recurring charge with no capital outlay. The Visual TruView console also acts as a central management point when multiple TruView Branch probes are deployed. Hardware probes capabilities

Last Cry Event- the ASEs provide a remote site power outage notification in storms in real time, providing the NOC team instant situational awareness whether a remote site has been by an electrical outage. This is different from a router failure and a hard cut via the back hoe in the parking lot



Bit Error Rate Testing (BERT) and Loop back capabilities is old school troubleshooting on Layer 1 that allows for further prove that the last mile is not clean. The easy solution is to upgrade the circuit and get new access to the remote location. This causes additional unexpected costs.



1 second Burst Analysis- the problem with most network monitoring tools is they average out there sampling points, while remote ASE probes have the capability of identifying bursty traffic and seeing who and what is causing the “network to be slow.”



Remote Packet Capture- Being inline on the wire into the remote location is the premier position to identify those pesky problems and isolate the issue. By having the packets available, your advance technical services team will be able to isolate the problem quickly and efficiently.



Overcome Objections for Installing Hardware Inline on your Network
1. A probe could bring down the network.
  • Link Safe- All hardware probes are capable of failing to wire without interrupting the service. This has been certified by major international Service Providers and Fortune 500 enterprise labs. In fact, we encourage you to test it yourself in your own environment.

2. Probes cost a lot.
  • This concept is propagated by trying to put large packet collectors at remote locations that are designed for head end circuits or data centers. ASEs provide just the right amount of information required to know who owns the problem and isolate the problem down to a server, client, application, or VoIP call. An alternative is to be purchased as a monthly recurring charge from a service provider.

3. Probes require a lot of bandwidth.
  • Data Collection- the amount of data collected via the VPM server is minimal. Например: T1 ASE= 550kb per day and a 1 GIG = 7,6 Mb per day. At any time real time data is available at a remote location for immediate gratification and troubleshooting of a site, if there are no problem indicators at the other sites then data is collected on off hours, but only if there is bandwidth available.

4. Probes are hard to install and configure.
  • Installation down time- after racking and stacking the probe next to the customer edge router at the remote location and confirming the managed IP address and the SNMP community string, the amount of down time is limited to how fast you can physically unplug a cable and plug in a cable. Fluke has shipped and installed 10s of 1000s of probes, we offer installation services if needed. The probes automatically discover applications, burst, bandwidth, errors, etc with no configuration.

5. Probes are not scalable.
  • Management of Probes- this is the easiest and most simplistic part of the solution, as the VPM server and TruView appliance is self-regulating and monitoring. A full blown solution service offering with 100s of customers and 1000s of probes is typically monitored and managed by less than two full time employees.

6. Probes are not secure.
  • Data transfer- all data can be encrypted when transferred between the probe and the server on your private MPLS network that is dedicated to you and the VPM web interface can be HTTPS secured
Site to Site Active testing

Most service providers provide SLAs on the core network from the Provider Edge Router to the Provider Edge Router and do not include site to site Service Level Agreements. By utilizing the probes at each location, the enterprise can see the true site to site SLAs including the last mile on either location. For example, if a site is London with “UK Telecom” providing the access line and a site is in New York with “Bell New York” providing the access, and the service provider for the end to end MPLS circuit is “Awesome Telephone Technology,” how will you know where the problem is?


The probes provide the key measurements necessary for site to site SLAs (up to 4 096 end points) to included:


  • Site to Site Availability per CoS including last mile
  • Round Trip Delay per CoS because distance does matter.
  • Packet Delivery Ratio per CoS- Packets Delivered / Packets Offered- based upon actual, real, customer traffic- not synthetic testing.
  • Jitter- measurements because the time between packets can cause issues.
  • In addition, an on-demand tool called, “Verify Connectivity” between site to site reduces the time to verify that sites can talk to each other. Normally, you would log into a remote device at site A and then try to identify a remote device at site B and ping it. Does your first level support desk do this?

Time synchronization for Network, VoIP and Applications

Why have five tools when you can have one? A probe automatically correlates the errors on layer 1 with bandwidth, bursting, top talker, server, and VoIP MoS score at the same time at each remote location. This allows instant real time visibility and reduces having to log into three or four different tools, even junior IT support can troubleshoot issues on the network and isolate the root cause.


The continuous monitoring and situational awareness will allow you to successfully roll out your next three to five year IT strategic initiatives like VoIP, Video, Virtualization, Wireless, BYOD and Cloud goals.


The probes provide real time SNMP events that allow for instant troubleshooting at each location. Once the troubleshooting is completed, exhaustive arrays of reports are available for Daily, Weekly, or Monthly review.
